The project is funded by the World Bank through the Municipal Developing and Lending Fund. It included selecting a new site for sanitary landfill that will serve the southern part of the West Bank (Hebron and Bethlehem Governorates). Moreover, it included conducting environmental and social impact assessment, geotechnical investigation in the two potential sites identified and a detailed design of the land fill. The project main output was as follows:

• 1. Site selection report. Nearly 14 potential sites were investigated and two potential sites were identified and one was finally selected as the best alternative.
• 2. Environmental and Social Impact Assessment including environmental management plan. Detailed survey on the main environmental issues of concern was analyzed. The likely impact of the proposed site on several aspects of environment such as biodiversity including endangered species (Flora and Fauna), surface and groundwater, landscape, topography, land use, etc. In the mean time the social assessment included assessing the impact of people’s livelihood, population displacement, impact of scavengers, etc.
• 3. Detailed design of the land fill site as well as transfer stations. Designs included landfill cells, related infrastructure, isolation, associated service building, electricity, water, roads, etc.
• 4. Existing dumpsite closure report. A detailed report was prepared for the closure of the existing dumpsites after the completion of the new sanitary landfill.
