Securing access to water for the most vulnerable

Ramallah, 26-07-09: The Palestinian Hydrology Group (PHG), in partnership with Asamblea de Cooperación por la Paz (ACPP), this month began implementation of an urgent action to secure the access of vulnerable populations to water in the districts of Qalqiliya and Tulkarem, Occupied Palestinian Territories.  The action is being undertaken with a grant of EUR 300,000 from the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department.

The action includes rehabilitation of four groundwater wells supplying domestic and/or agricultural water to six communities, by replacing old and defunct equipment, and by training well operators to better manage the functioning of the wells. The project will ensure the steady supply of quantity and quality water to more than 28,569 people for both domestic and agricultural needs.

For more information, please contact: Mr. Amjad Assi, PHG Project Coordinator, Tel: 02-2966315, E-mail: amjad@phg.org, or North Office, Tel: 092374057.
