Stakeholder Participation for Improved Local Water Governance

 

Agricultural Water Conservation

 PHG undertook a project to help achieve food security and mitigate drought impact by improving irrigation efficiency at Nassaria area in the Northern Jordan Valley.The project encountered the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 17 km long of irrigation canals, the rehabilitation of six main springs feeding the canals and construction of 83 ponds of capacity vary between 150-300 cubic meter each. 

 

Training and Capacity Building

PHG has established a specialized training institute (PWTRI) on water and wastewater related issues.
 

Decentralized Rural and Small Community Sanitation and Reuse

PHG has developed this new initiative in 1997. It aims at improving the sanitation services at the rural areas in the West Bank and Gaza. Many activities already implemented under this initiative. One project implemented at the town of Bani Zaid North of Ramallah it includes wastewater collection, treatment and reuse. It currently serves 25

 

Treated Waste Water Reuse.

- Biet Lahia phase “2BLAPP2”

 This phase focused on using different irrigation methods more adequate for the irrigation of Alfalfa  simply because:- High cost of the drip irrigation system .- complexity of drip irrigation with these TWW characteristics
 

Fresh Water Supply Enhancement through Rain Water Harvesting

Although water harvesting techniques exist traditionally , PHG’s aim is to improve the rainwater harvesting methodologies, insure the safety of water users and to improve the socio-economic levels of the society. 
 

Water Resources Rehabilitation and Development

PHG Works on rehabilitating natural Springs and Water wells
 

Lobbying and Advocacy

  PHG have been actively engaged at local and international levels in the water events in order to keep the voice of Palestinians present at all locations. PHG continued to conduct lobbying against the Israeli practices toward using water as a pressure tool against Palestinians. In addition, PHG has lobbied hard to insure rightful allocation of water quantities with adequate qualities to rural and marginal communities in Palestine.  
 

Stakeholder Participation for Improved Local Water Governance

      
 PHG has joined efforts with other partners from the region, US and EU in a partnership program (EMPOWERS) to facilitate stakeholder (SH) participation in local water management. PHG has contributed to the development / adaptation of appropriate tools that enable SH participation in the decision making process.
